The Unemployment Services Trust (UST) was created by nonprofits for nonprofits, to help save 25% or more on their unemployment costs through lower rates and expert claims monitoring. Annually, UST helps nonprofits save over $35 million on their unemployment claims.
UST helps nonprofits take advantage of a federal law that allows 501(c)(3) organizations to opt out of the state’s tax-rated unemployment system and instead pay only for the unemployment claims of their former employees. You don't have to pay an inflated state tax rate, and you are no longer subsidizing for-profit companies with higher unemployment claims. Unlike paying state unemployment taxes, your deposits into your UST account remain an asset on your books.
In addition, UST provides claims monitoring assistance to detect any irregularities, improper charges, or inaccuracies to help reduce the number of claims you see each year.
UST has been helping nonprofits since 1983, and currently has over 2,000 members.
