Who We Are
Maryland Nonprofits is
of, by and for the state's nonprofit sector. We strive to
maintain a membership, as well as a Board of Directors, that is
broadly representative of the diversity of Maryland's nonprofit
community.
Board
of Directors
Our Board of Directors
is composed of nonprofit executives and senior level staff, as well
as business and community leaders and professionals who are actively
involved in the nonprofit community. In fact, our Bylaws lay
out a complicated formula that is intended to assure that the Board
includes up to 27 members who are, as a group, representative of
the nonprofit sector. Under the bylaws, board seats are allocated
as follows:
- 3 seats are for executives of Arts, Culture, Humanities,
and Education organizations;
- 3 seats for Health Care, Environment and Animal Related
organizations;
- 3 seats for Human Services organizations;
- 3 seats for Public and Society Benefit, International,
Religious, and Miscellaneous organizations;
- 1 seat is for an executive of a nonprofit headquartered
in Prince Georges County, Montgomery County, or Southern Maryland;
- 1 seat is for an executive of a nonprofit headquartered
on the Eastern Shore (including Cecil County);
- 1 seat is for an executive of a nonprofit headquartered
in Frederick County, Washington County, Allegany County or Garrett
County;
- 5 seats are for nonprofit executives from any subsector
or geographic region;
- 5 seats are allocated as "Community Seats" for
individuals who are involved with nonprofits on a volunteer or
professional basis who are not employed by a nonprofit; and
- 2 seats are At-large, for individuals who support the
purpose of Maryland Nonprofits, regardless of his/her affiliation.
