Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism seeks public input
In early 2010, the Maryland Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism will complete a strategic planning process to determine priorities for the next five years. You are invited to comment via a brief online survey on the two broad elements of the Office's mission: Supporting Volunteer Service and AmeriCorps Funding. This initial survey is meant to capture, in broad strokes, as much input from as many citizens as possible, and the results will be included in the strategic planning process. The survey takes approximately five minutes to complete>>
Survey responses are requested no later than Wednesday, October 14.

7/09 - Federal Minimum Wage Increases to $7.25 per hour
On July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage increased from $6.55 per hour to $7.25 per hour pursuant to the third and final increase of the three-phase wage increase adopted by Congress in 2007. As a result, the minimum wage in Maryland increased from $6.55 to $7.25 per hour. Learn more>>

Overall giving to charities increased in 2007, marking the first time in U.S. history charitable giving surpassed $300 billion. While online giving accounts for only a small percentage of that total, the Internet is energizing philanthropy and changing the way that we give. 7/08 - 2008 Nonprofits by the Numbers and Nonprofit Employment Update - Just Released
The 2008 edition of Nonprofits by the Numbers shows that Maryland's nonprofit sector is not only growing in numbers, but budget sizes are growing as well - translating to roughly 9.5% of the entire state's workforce and 8.4% of Maryland's payroll. The May 2008 Maryland Nonprofit Employment Update shows that employment in the nonprofit sector grew three times faster than the state's for-profit sector.
7/08 - Donors & Revenue Both Drop According to Recent Study
The number of donors and the revenue of the organizations tracked in the Target Analytics Index of National Fundraising both declined when the first quarter of 2008 is compared to the first quarter of 2007.
