- U.S. Senate Committee on Finance invites Maryland Nonprofits new
Standards for Excellence Institute to participate in discussion
on charity oversight and accountability.
In June
2004 the United States Senate Committee on Finance issued a discussion
draft outlining proposals for changes to the system of charity regulation
on the federal and state level. Included was a recommendation
that federal funds be allocated to support nonprofit sector accreditaton
and best practices standards. The Standards for Excellence
was specifically cited. Formal hearings were held on June
22 and a Charity Roundtable was held on July 22, at which Peter
