Develop Mission, Strategy, and Evaluation
The Board of Directors is responsible for assuring that a nonprofit is making progress toward achieving its mission of service to the community. The board must organize itself to be efficient and effective, assuring that the organization operates in an ethical, forthright, and law-abiding manner. The board of directors is responsible for assuring adequate human and financial resources, hiring and supervising the chief executive, and actively monitoring and evaluating the organization’s financial and programmatic performance. To do this well, nonprofit board members must understand the full scope of their responsibilities and roles as well as the relationship between the board and the professional staff and volunteers.
