We chose this indicator as a proxy for air quality measures that could be disaggregated on the county level that allows us to measure factors that affect air quality. Trees have a net positive impact on the concentration of particulate pollution in the air, as well as a variety of positive effects on air temperature, environmental resilience, and overall quality of life and livability.
