The Working Board Member – Board Room Quick Tip (19)

There is a purposeful and necessary distinction between the role of the Board and the role of the Staff in a nonprofit organization. On the most basic level, the Board determines the mission of the organization and governs, while the Staff works to achieve or address that mission by running the day-to-day operations.

However, we don’t always have the Staff necessary to carry out functions that typically fall within the purview of the Staff. This quick tip shares things for “working” Board members to remember, as well as appropriate roles for Board and Staff in committee participation.
