Sobre MALVEC

La misión de la Coalición Latina del Atlántico Medio por el Acceso Equitativo a la Vacuna es lograr que toda la población latina de Maryland se vacune. Somos una coalición comprometida y trabajadora que quiere mantener a nuestros compañeros latinos a salvo del mortal virus de COVID-19. 

De los 3,379,800 residentes de Maryland que se han vacunado por completo, apenas el 8% son latinos. Según el Baltimore Sun, estas son cifras tan recientes como junio de 2021. Eso significa que el número de Latinos que se ha vacunado por completo es de apenas 270,384, aproximadamente. Maryland cuenta con una población Latina de alrededor de 606,482 habitantes. Nuestro objetivo es trabajar para acercarnos lo más posible a ese número. Con nuestro dedicado equipo de trabajadores y voluntarios, tenemos la intención de seguir impulsando ese número en una dirección ascendente. 

MALVEC no es una coalición específica de un condado sino que cubrimos todos los condados de Maryland. Nuestros esfuerzos son en beneficio de todos los Latinos del estado.

MALVEC Partners – Center of Help

The Center of Help has been giving back to the Latinx community in Annapolis since 1999. Their services have given Latinos the opportunity to get educated on learning, citizenship, and life post-education. The Center of Help’s efforts to give back to the Latinx community has been key to getting Latinos vaccinated during these dire times.

MALVEC Partners – CASA

CASA is an organization that stretches over the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. CASA is filled with individuals who are dedicated to creating and expanding opportunities/resources for the Latinx community. Their efforts have been crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic in helping Latinos get vaccinated.

MALVEC Partners – Dr. Kathleen Page

Dr. Kathleen Page is an Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Medicine. Dr. Page’s contribution to the Latino community has been insurmountable. Dr. Page leads the School of Medicine Taskforce on promoting research on equity and inclusion so those who are not proficient in English. Her partnership with MALVEC is a major necessity to helping accomplish our mission.

MALVEC Partners – Laura Gutierrez

Laura Gutierrez is the Hispanic Community Services Specialist in the Office of the Mayor in Annapolis, Maryland. Mrs. Gutierrez’ work in Annapolis and the creation of Cuidate has helped reduced the number of COVID-19 cases. Her efforts are key to the overall mission of MALVEC to get the overall Latino population vaccinated.
